Well, feeling inspired by my last comment on my last post, I wanted to write a little something f my Mother's Day and share some fond memories that I have of my mother.
This morning Alsy and Calvy got up and made me breakfast, which is especially thoughtful considering Alsy stayed up till 2am and got up around 7 am to do it. When it was ready he came and got me out of bed. It was delicious, bacon, sausage patties, sausage links, homemade waffles with chopped up strwberries and whipped cream, omlets with ham, onion, green chilies, and cheese; orange juice and last but not least a fruit tray including kiwi. It was so great. Then we got to complete our breakfast with a little service. We dropped off a plate of our same breakfast to out neighbor who is a single mom. It was so great, she invited us in even though she wasn't expecting us (we were all in jammies and her house was not expecting visitors either, which made me feel right at home (0: ) It was a great morning. I was asked by our RS president to sing on Mother's Day, in a quartet. So we had been practicing for a few weeks and the night before my voice decides to break up. I called and let them know that I might not be singing. This morning I woke up and did not have a voice...well I had one but it was definitely NOT a singing voice. So I was planning on not singing, but as I walked out the door I decided to grab my music, in case they wnated to fins a replacement. Just before our 2nd hour I was asked by our RS pres if I would still sing. I was a little confused anda little pirturbed that she wanted me to sing in my condition, but I agreed to practice and try it out, planning on telling her that it just wasn't going to work, that my voice was just too far gone. But while practicing it started to get better, don't get me wrong, I was cracking and fluctuating all over the place, but it wasn't horrible. so we decided that I would sing, I asked them all to say a little prayer for me, and we went on our way. In our 3rd hour when it was our time to get up and sing, our RS Pres made a little comment that my voice was not up to par but that I was going to sing anyway. We got up and it sounded great, my voice still cracked and was completely nonexistant at times, but it sounded good. They even decided that it sound so good that they asked us if we would sing in Sacrament Meeting. So there you go, next time your RS Pres asks you to do something you feel is impossible, remember that they are called of God and inspired in ways we may never know. Thank Kathy, I really enjoyed singing and I can't wait to sing in Sacrament Meeting.
Now, onto some of my favorite memories, or just favorite things I remember about my mom.
I remember when growing up we used to make tents with blankets and chairs and rubberbands. This one time my mom, who usually helped us, decided that we would make a really big tent, and it was. It had to have taken 6-7 blankets and chairs, it took up almost the entire living room, I remember that if you wanted to walk down the hallway you'd have to crawl through the tent. It was so much fun, she let us sleep in it and keep it up for a few days. Back then we never understood why we had to take them down at all, but now being a mom and experiencing household messes, I am really grateful for a mom who put up with things like, HUGE tents taking up half her house so that us as kids would be able to have a good time and enjoy ourselves.
I also remember a time in Highschool when I was getting ready for one of my Proms, I think it was my Senior Prom, and my mom had been in Utah visiting with her sister I think who might have just had a baby, I'm not really sure. But she drove all night and all morning to make sure that she was there to help me get ready. I wish now that I would have realized the pressure she was under to get home and be there for me. I know at the time I wasn't grateful, and it breaks my heart to think of how I treated her at the time, and wish now that I could relive that day and do it different. I hope my mom knows how much I love her and appreciate all that she has done for me in my life. I am who I am today because of her. She is a great mother sho loves her children and wants nothing more than for us to be happy.
Make sure you mother knows that you love her, don't let her assume, tell her. You never know when it may be too late, or maybe you'll just be like me and wish you could have done it differently. Happy Mother's Day.
